Bangalore: As before, this time also the Rural IT Quiz, organised by the Department of IT, BT, Science and Technology, in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has received an enthusiastic response, with 12 lakh students participating. One of the biggest IT quiz programmes of its kind, the quiz, in its ninth year, is conceptualised and designed to enhance IT awareness among rural students across Karnataka. This year, the finals will take place at the BangaloreIT.biz venue on Palace Grounds, Bangalore, on November 7, starting 4 p.m. The first round was conducted on September 10 followed by the district round on October 4, with the 50 teams from each district participating in the regional-level finals conducted across six districts — Gulbarga, Dharwad, Davangere, Tumkur, Udupi and Mysore. Six teams have qualified for the State finals. They will contest for the State championship. Tata Consultancy Services has offered three cash prizes of Rs. 75,000 (first prize), Rs. 35,000 (second prize) and Rs. 20,000 (third prize). The quizmaster for the event is Giri Balasubramaniam. Cash prizesThe second and third place winners of the regional finals will also receive cash prizes of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 4,000 each respectively from KEONICS of the Department of IT,BT and Science and Technology.
