Unfortunate, says BJP

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan has described as “unfortunate” the Sheila Dikshit Government’s failure to declare “Chhat Pooja” a public holiday.

Stating that the importance of “Chhat Pooja” was increasing day by day, Dr. Vardhan said: “Last year the BJP had demanded that in view of the sentiments of people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar the Government should declare the day of Chhat Pooja as a public holiday so that the more than 30 lakh people of Poorvanchal can pay obeisance to the Sun. It is sad that the Sheila Dikshit Government has ignored the sentiments of the people from Poorvanchal.”

Noting that the religious festival would end with worshipping of the rising Sun on Wednesday, Dr. Vardhan said: “The importance of Chhat Pooja in Delhi can be gauged by the fact that several areas such as Laxmi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, New Ashok Nagar, Dwarka, Dabri, Shahdara, Mandawali, Sagarpur, Mangolpuri bustle with life day and night.”
