Uproar over stray cattle

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: There was an uproar in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House meeting on Monday over the failure of the civic body to rid the Capital’s roads of stray cattle that continue to pose a threat to commuters and pedestrians alike.

Narrating the state of affairs in the MCD areas, BJP councillor Gaurav Khari said cows being reared for religious purposes in ashrams near Tibbia College were being rounded up instead of stray cattle. This was not the case earlier, he alleged.

Civil Lines Zone Ward Committee chairman Ramesh Mohan Chauhan alleged that a former MCD councillor had illegally kept 500 cows and later abandoned them on the roads. “No action is being taken by the MCD officials to deal with the stray cattle menace in areas including Adarsh Nagar, Model Town, Majlis Park.”
