Weights and Measures units in all APMC yards

BANGALORE: The Government will consider establishing the units of the office of the Weights and Measures at all APMC yards in the State for inspecting the weights and measurement scales instead of the existing practice of getting stocks to the office itself, Controller of Weights and Measures, Department of Legal Metrology, D. Basavaraju, has said.

Mr. Basavaraju was addressing an interactive session organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Monday.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the FKCCI seeking that VAT should be made chargeable on MRP as VAT rates were the same throughout the country; Mr. Basavaraju said he would draw the Centre’s attention to the issue.

Mr. Basavaraju said the Government had taken steps to ensure quality and quantity of petroleum products. The Government was aware of the alleged tricks being played on consumers at petrol bunks in the State. Consumer awareness would hold the key in preventing and eradicating “frauds” committed against the consumers’ interests on various counts by unethical individuals and agencies in addition to the relevant laws, he added.

FKCCI president D. Muralidhar welcomed the gathering.

Internal Trade and APMC Committee (FKCCI) chairman B.V. Gopal Reddy submitted the memorandum based on the inputs provided by some FKCCI members.
