HYDERABAD: Tamil Nadu men’s and women’s teams won the team championships topping the table in the 10th South Zone carrom championship in Kakinada on Monday, according to information received here. In the last round match which was a virtual final between Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu, the latter emerged a 2-1 winner despite M.A. Hakeem (Hyderabad) surprising B. Radhakrishnan 23-25, 25-9, 25-11 in the opening singles. In the second singles, R. Kuberan put it across L. Surya Prakash 16-25, 25-11, 15-13 and later the doubles pair of Sakthivel and Dinakaran downed E. Ashok Kumar and D. Ravinder Goud 24-12, 21-17 to clinch the issue in Tamil Nadu’s favour. The results: Men: Round-robin league: Tamil Nadu bt Kerala 3-0; Karnataka bt Pondicherry 3-0; Hyderabad bt Andhra 2-1; Pondicherry bt Andhra 2-1; Karnataka bt Kerala 2-1; Tamil Nadu bt Hyderabad 2-1. Women: Tamil Nadu bt Hyderabad 3-0 (Ilavazhagi bt Nagajyothi 25-0, 25-0; G. Revathy bt Savitha Devi 25-2, 25-1; Yuvarani & Manjula bt Srividya &Vidyaraj 25-0, 25-0).
