CHANDIGARH: Senior Haryana Police officers on Monday evening regretted the unfortunate incident in which a young man was killed in an “encounter” near Bhiwani and described it as a case of “mistaken identity”. The Superintendent of Hisar Police confirmed in a statement that the Government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the killing of the youth by the police. He clarified that more than Rs.2.16 lakh was looted at gunpoint from Haryana Grameen Bank at Sorkhi village in the Hansi area on May 19 and the police were looking for the culprits. Two accused were even arrested in Bhatol on Monday and police teams were sent to Bhiwani district and Haluwas village in search of the other two culprits. Acting on information that the culprits were in Bhiwani city and would proceed towards Auto Market on Tosham Road, a barrier was put up on Bhiwani-Loharu Road and another on Tosham Road. The SP said that at about 12-30 a.m., three-four boys were coming speedily on a motorcycle and were signalled by the police to stop. “But they made good their escape by speeding their vehicle and they were chased by the police in a jeep in a bid to stop them. As the terrain was undulated and because of jerks suddenly the weapon of Constable Karambir fired and the bullet hit the person who was driving the motorcycle,” he added.
