B.S. Pandit passes away

B.S. Pandit

MYSORE: Renowned educationist Bharadwaja Srikanta Pandit, founder secretary of Geetha Shishu Shikshana Sangha (GSSS), died here on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 72.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Prof. Pandit established a chain of educational institutions: Geetha Bharathi Primary School, Bantwal Madhava Shenoy High School, Badriprasadji Pre-university College, Simha Subbalakshmi First Grade College, the GSSS Institute of Management Sciences and the GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, which was the first all-girls engineering college in the State.

He was also a member of the Senate of the University of Mysore for three terms, and was a member of the Mysore University Finance Committee. Prof. Pandit was also vice-president of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mysore centre, and honorary secretary of the Managements’ Association of Aided and Unaided Institutions of Mysore city, district and Chamarajanagar district from 1993 onwards.

He had been a professor and head of the Department of Physics, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore. He also served as NCC officer from 1964 to 1981 and retired as a Major in No. 2 Karnataka Engineering Battalion, Mysore.

In addition, Prof. Pandit was a member of the Governing Council of Mahajana Education Society from 1974 onwards and Managing Committee member of Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions from 1984 to 1991 and its secretary from 1989 to 1991.
