Rs.33.14 crore mobilised

Under small savings scheme

PUDUKOTTAI: Small savings to the tune of Rs.33.14 crore has been mobilised till September during the current financial year in Pudukottai district. The achievement is against Rs.23.11 crore mobilised during the whole of the last fiscal, said the District Revenue Officer R. Mahendravel.

Speaking at a function to mark the celebrations of the ‘World Thrift Day,’ here recently, he appealed to the members of the public to deposit their money in the small savings schemes. Explaining the utilisation of the small savings deposits for the implementation of certain minor schemes being implemented by the government, he appealed to the members of the public to develop the habit of savings to meet any unforeseen exigency.

He also honoured the Small Savings agents with record mobilisation of small savings during 2007-08 on the occasion with National Savings Scheme patras. K.P.S. Vasantha, S. Ezhil and S. Chithra got the first, second and third prize of patra for Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000. They had mobilised Rs.2.07 crore, Rs.34.46 lakh and Rs.27.94 lakh respectively.

Three State government employees – P. Manimaran, M. Ravichandran and P. Singaravel, who had been promptly recovering the recurring deposit under the Salary Savings Scheme were honoured with the NSS patras on the occasion. The Head Post-Office got a shield and a patra for Rs.3,100.

The Personal Assistant to the Collector (Small Savings), V. Raman, said that several competitions were held as part of the celebrations in which a large number of students participated. He also gave away prizes to the winners. The Superintendent of Post-offices, M. Paramasivam; the Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam and the District Education Officer Madeven Pillai spoke.
