Presentation

C.Rajendran, Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, Coimbatore, conducted a presentation on the power of Thirukkural in real life for the higher secondary students of Keartiman Academy Matriculation Higher Secondary School recently. Quotes from the Thirukkural were read out and the many facets of human life were described.

He explained to the children the need to be a model citizen of the country. More than 250 students attended the programme.

Dental check up

Zion School, Chettipalayam, organised a dental check up for its students in association with WeCare Dental Clinic, Podanur. The camp was a boon to the students from rural areas where opportunities for such check up were rare.

The doctors advised the children on the ways to take care of their teeth and demonstrated the right method of brushing teeth. Parents too were advised to keep a check on their children’s dental hygiene.

Competitions

The Department of School Education conducted a district-level interschool art and literary competitions at Sulur RVS School in which 45 schools participated. Ellakkya of Standard V, Keerthivasan of Standard VIII, Kaoushik of Plus-One, Adhitya of Plus-Two, Ramesh Kumar of Standard X, Aravindhan of Standard X of K.G.Matriculation Higher Secondary School bagged prizes for dance, instrumental music and keyboard.

Sports events

The annual sports meeting of Sri Vani Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thoppampatti in Namakkal district, was held recently.

A large number of students participated in the sporting events.

Winners were presented with certificates and prizes. Senthamangalam Panchayat Union chairman G.P. Rajamani Varadarajan distributed the prizes. School chairman V. Natanasabapathi and principal A. Mathivanan were present.

Winners

K. Sarath Chandiran, a Standard III student of Sri Vidhya Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Neikkarapatti in Salem district, won the third prize in the State-level drawing competition organised by the Forest Department as a part of the wildlife week celebrations.

V. Mohana Priya of Standard X, studying in the same school, won the third place in the district level drawing competition. Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam gave away the prizes and certificates to the students at a function recently. School chairman P. Ravi, Correspondent Vasanthaa Vanamamalai and Principal Uma Rajamanickam congratulated the winners.

Vijayadasami

The Rasi International School, Rasipuram in Namakkal district, celebrated Vijaya Dasami.

Children admitted in the school during the celebration were given the first lesson. Special Hayakreeva Homam and Vidya Saraswathi Homam were performed as part of the celebrations.

The valedictory of the Navaratri Kolu toys exhibition was also held. School chairman S. Sathiyamoorthi presided. Principal D. Vidhyasagar was present.

Demonstration

The Abacus International Montessori School, in association with the Fire and Rescue Services Department conducted a fire safety demonstration on the school premises in Tirupur recently, as part of Deepavali celebrations.

School sources said the event was aimed at educating the children on the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ that needed to be followed while encountering the fire. The fire servicemen demonstrated the techniques to be followed while carrying a fainted person from a multi-storeyed edifice and the first aid to be given to the injured.

The methods to handle fire extinguishers were explained.
