Mamata demands CBI inquiry

Staff Reporter

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday, demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the landmine blast at Kalaichandi in Paschim Medinipur district, targeting the convoy of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday.

Ms. Banerjee condemned the incident and said: “The State government is indirectly pointing fingers at our party members for allegedly supporting such heinous crimes and we want a Central government investigation to prove the charge wrong.”

She criticised the incidents of violence against north Indians in Maharashtra. “These are the doings of some narrow-minded politicians and the entire community is hated for their wrong-doings. I express solidarity with both the Maharashtrians and the Hindi-speaking people from north India.”
