Chennai: Karnataka openers Robin Uthappa (131) and K.B. Pawan (54) raised 157 runs but the host collapsed to 264 for six against Railways on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Group ‘B’ super league match. The Karnataka slump in Bangalore was triggered by paceman Harvinder Singh and left-arm spinner Murali Kartik who claimed five wickets between them. S. Sohal’s 110 took Punjab to a competitive 228 for five after Delhi pacemen Aashish Nehra and Pradeep Sangwan made early inroads in the Group `A’ Super League game in New Delhi. A record unbeaten 193-run partnership for the fourth wicket between skipper Swapnil Asnodkar and import Ajay Ratra saw Goa post a healthy 328 for three against Kerala in their Group ‘A’ clash at Palakkad. The scores: Super League (Day One): At Bangalore: Karnataka 264 for six (K.B. Pawan 54, Robin Uthappa 131) vs Railways. At Cuttack: Hyderabad 228 for five (D. Ravi Teja 71, S. Anoop Pai 78, Abhinav Kumar 48 batting) vs Orissa. At New Delhi: Punjab 237 for five (S. Sohal 110) vs Delhi. At Rajkot: Gujarat 304 for four (S. Patel 90 batting, B. Thakkar 73 batting, N. Modi 42, P. Patel 42) vs Sourashtra. At Mumbai: Mumbai 293 for eight (Wasim Jarrer 60, Ajinkya Rahane 73, Rohit Sharma 62) vs Rajasthan. Plate League: At Ranchi: Jammu & Kashmir 225 all out (Manoj Joglekar 77, Aditya Pratap 56) vs Jharkhand 23 for two. At Palakkad: Goa 328 for three (S. Kamat 52, S. Asnodkar 137 batting, A. Ratra 109 batting) vs Kerala.
