Swraj Paul’s trust opens new educational academy

LONDON: A new educational academy, sponsored by UK-based Indian industrialist Swraj Paul’s charitable trust, the Ambika Paul Foundation, opened its doors at Tipton in the West Midlands on Tuesday.

Set up in collaboration with the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), it was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Ambika Paul Learning Resource Centre, which commemorates the memory of Lord Paul’s daughter who died of leukaemia at a very young age, has state-of-the-art facilities, including a library and IT equipment.

In a statement, his son Akash and daughter Anjli said: “The Paul family is very keen on education so it is a great pleasure for us to be involved with this project in the West Midlands where our company, Caparo, employs some 3,500 people.”

Gerry Archer, chairman of the RSA, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Ambika Paul Foundation in the development of our new RSA Academy. We are pleased to be naming our Learning Resource Centre in memory of Ambika Paul.”

The RSA Academy at Tipton has developed innovative curriculum framework, ‘Opening Minds,’ in which young people are encouraged to develop life skills. Schools using the curriculum have reported increased motivation levels, greater engagement and enjoyment in learning and higher self-esteem.
