PANCHKULA: Hamish Marshall notched up a stroke-filled unbeaten 80 as Royal Bengal Tigers cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Chennai Superstars and booked a berth in the semifinals of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex here on Tuesday. After electing to bat, Chennai Superstars made 161 in 19.5 overs with Hemang Badani and R. Satish scoring half-centuries. The Tigers’s run-chase was a smooth affair. With this win, it is now at the second spot even though tying with the table-topper Superstars on 10 points. The opening pair of Marshall and Deep Dasgupta gathered 132 runs at a brisk pace, . Marshall hitting eight 4s and three 6s. Dasgupta played the anchor role before switching gears to get 54 off 46 balls (4x4, 2x6). Entertaining shotsEarlier, Badani and Satish played some entertaining shots to take Superstars to a respectable total. The duo had a 90-run partnership off just 51 balls. Satish’s knock was more attractive as he struck three handsome sixes and five boundaries in his 50. Badani, on the other hand, relied on his timing and hit six fours and a six to gather 55 runs. But, Chandana, who had the prize-scalp of Russel Arnold earlier, brought the Tigers back into the game claiming three wickets off four balls in the 19th over. The scores: Chennai Superstars 161 in 19.5 overs (Hemang Badani 55, R. Satish 50, Upul Chandana four for 38) lost to Royal Bengal Tigers 162 for one in 19.2 overs (Hamish Marshall 80 not out, Deep Dasgupta 54).
