Kochi
KOCHI: They are into blogging not merely for the fun of it. For them it is an apt way to express themselves, an avenue to satisfy their creative urge in a world driven by technology. Kenney Jacob and Anand Subramanian are among the group of techies in the city who have volunteered to propagate the ever expanding reach of blogs. “We have among us full-time bloggers and IT professionals,” said Mr. Kenney, a computer science graduate awaiting an opportunity to fly to the U.S. to do his masters. Unlike most bloggers who focus on the content of their blogs and the hit and comments that evoke, the objective of these youngsters goes beyond that. They want to attract the younger generation by opening up before them the vista of blogs. Hence, they are focusing on schools and colleges. “We have so far created blogs for three colleges and a school,” said Mr. Kenney. The group already has the blogs of Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alappuzha, ( www.vosree.com), Mar Baselius college of Engineering & Technology, Peerumedu, ( www.mbc-rasta.com), and Matha College of Technology, near North Paravur, ( www.astralarena.com), and St. Kuriakose Public School, Kaduthuruthy, ( www.skpsbytes.com) to its credit. Blogs are being set up with the server support of a Kochi-based hosting company. Campuses concerned have to bear the cost while the group give technical support and expertise to set it up. “Once the blog is hosted the complete control, creative and technical, is handed over to the campus,” Mr. Kenney said. These blogs serve as message boards and online magazines all rolled into one, he said. “Every student has some talents lying hidden in them. It is a matter of bringing them out of that comfort zone to give vent to their creative skills. Blogs offer them that opportunity,” Mr. Kenney said. Campus authorities are approached for starting their own blogs through interested students there. This, Mr. Kenney said, was intended to develop the communicative and presentation skills of students. Mr. Kenney regularly updates his blog www.keeneyjacob.com with postings on varied topics such as disruptive technologies to education to social issues and observations on media. Together they want to propel the concept of “campus blogging” to a new level in the State.
