198 village panchayats covered under AGAMT

The Government has so far spent Rs. 39.60 crore

NAMAKKAL: A total of 198 village panchayats in Namakkal district have been covered under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) till date.Collector U. Sagayam, after inspecting the development works taken up under the AGAMT and National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Mohanur block on Tuesday, said the Government had spent Rs. 39.60 crore in the 198 panchayats to carry out works such as formation of concrete paths, installation of sodium vapour lamps, creation of playground, laying of pipelines for drinking water supply, removing silt from the temple ponds and ‘ooranis’, developing inland fishery, building reading rooms, creation of basic amenities in crematorium grounds and renovation of village markets.

Mr. Sagayam asked the officials to ensure quality in the development works and proper utilisation of the funds. He also advised them to plant saplings in the crematoriums and vacant places.

The Collector inspected construction works at several parts in the district before visiting the noon-meal centre in a government school S. Vazhavanthi village. He directed the staff to prepare food under hygienic conditions.

He asked the teachers to ensure quality in the teaching and learning process. They should also ensure the enrolment of all the children aged above five in school. Senior officials accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
