Velu to flag off train service to Chamarajanagar
Correspondent
CHAMARAJANAGAR: Minister of State for Railways R. Velu will flag off a train service between Chamarajanagar and Mysore here on November 11.
M. Shivanna, MP, told The Hindu that Mr. Velu had agreed to inaugurate the service.
In June, the passenger service on the Mysore-Nanjangud section became operational. Though sources in the Railways said that the authorities were keen on starting the service on November 1 to mark Kannada Rajyotsava, they could not because of Mr. Velu’s tight schedule.
The gauge conversion work on the 61-km stretch between Chamarajanagar and Mysore is part of the uni-gauge policy and work on this section was approved in 2001. Though meagre funds were earmarked in the budgets, the project received a major thrust when Government released Rs. 85 crore for completion of work in 2005. A sum of Rs. 197 crore had been spent on the project.
