Making a point: Religious leaders during a press conference against terrorism in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Lucknow: Decrying moves to link terrorism with any particular religion, leaders belonging to different faith on Wednesday said this was a dangerous trend which would undermine country’s unity and sovereignty.

At a joint press conference here, they vowed to defeat forces which, they alleged, were whipping up religious and regional sentiments.

Linking terrorism with any religion was the most dangerous trend which would be detrimental to unity and integrity of the country, the leaders said.

The press conference was held under the aegis of the All India Muslim Morcha.

Some forces were whipping up regional and religious sentiments to damage the national fabric, Morcha chairman M. A. Siddique said.

Sikh Pratinidhi Sabha chief Gurmeet Singh said: “No religion permits killing. Therefore, it is totally incorrect to link killing of people with religion.” Leading Sunni scholar Sayyad Mohammad Hashmi Mian Kechchavi alleged some vested interests were trying to defame Islam which, he said, “is a religion of peace”.
