‘I have a dream …’

Mr. Obama, who was born on August 4, 1961, was just two when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous speech (August 28, 1963) in which he said: “I have a dream that one day … little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls as sisters and brothers.” The dream came true on Wednesday.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln’s poll managers propped him up as “Honest Abe, the rail-splitter and the humble man of the people.” In 1861, President Lincoln declared that if slavery was not wrong, nothing was wrong. Lincoln would surely have been happy to know that a black President would occupy the White House one day.
