Pensioner tricked, robbed of Rs. 3.5 lakh cash
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: A retired employee of Southern Railway was tricked and robbed of Rs.3.50 lakh in cash near his house in Perungalathur near Tambaram on Wednesday.
Police said Sampath, a resident of Rajamanickam Street, had got his daughter married recently. In order to settle the debts he had incurred, he withdrew Rs.3.50 lakh from the Perungalathur branch of a nationalised bank.
He withdrew the amount and was walking to his house. A little distance away from the bank, a youth on a motorcycle called out to the pensioner and told him that there was a stain on his shirt. However, Sampath told the youth that his house was nearby and that he would wash it after he reached home.
But the youth pursued the pensioner till he reached his house, but the latter was unaware of it. After reaching his house, Sampath left the suitcase outside the entrance door and was washing the dirt on his shirt, when the youth picked up the suitcase containing the cash and fled from the spot.
Following a complaint, Peerkankaranai police registered a case and along with personnel of Special Teams of the Mount Commissionerate, are searching for the youth.
