Hike in budget for BC welfare sought

VISAKHAPATNAM: AP BC Sankshema Sangham president R. Krishnaiah demanded allocation of Rs.2,000 crores in the next budget for taking up BC Welfare schemes.

Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, he lamented that the allocation for BCs was a Rs.1,000 crores while their population was 4.50 crore. He said it was unfortunate that the Government was not introducing any welfare schemes for BCs except the ones that were introduced following struggles by the Sangham.

He demanded opening of 100 BC hostels and 300 college hostels for BC boys during the next budget.

The onslaught of MNCs had reduced the employment of artisans and hence the Government should provide alternative employment.

Mr. Krishnaiah sought introduction of a bill for provision of 33 per cent reservation to BCs in legislatures.

Sangham leaders G. Srinivas, Ch. Appa Rao, R. Krishna Goud, Kolli Simhachalam and V. Yagnesh were present.
