Americans have chosen a bright future: Karunanidhi

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has congratulated Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate, on his victory in the U.S. presidential election.

In a letter to Mr. Obama, the Chief Minister said: “American people have opted for change and chosen a bright future. I am confident that your Presidency will herald a new chapter of ties with India.”

Noting the historic election of the first African-American, Mr. Karunanidhi said Mr Obama’s victory, which fulfilled the dream of Abraham Lincoln, marked the dawn, removing darkness on a race that was once enslaved.

He said he had similarly commended the release of Nelson Mandela after 27 years of imprisonment.
