At a time when the forest cover in the country was depleting fast, the Union and State governments were trying to handover a reserved forest area for mining. Shocking moveStating that it was a shocking and unfortunate move, members claimed that felling of trees and destroying forest resources would have serious impact on the environment. It will affect the livelihood of a large number of tribal people living in the villages located close to Kanjamalai forests. ProtectionThey asked the governments to withdraw the move and initiate concerted efforts to protect the tribal people living in the areas abetting forests and enhance their quality of life. ResettlementThey demanded the government to permit the villagers of Suriyur to resettle in their native village in which they have been living for generations.
