Man robbed of cash, cell phones and motorcycle

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Four young men robbed a commission agent and his nephew of several thousand rupees in cash, a motorcycle and two cell phones at gun-point in broad daylight at Shakarpur here on Thursday.

Mohammad Aga (40) was on his way home from his Ramesh Park market office along with his nephew on a motorcycle in the afternoon when the robbers in a Maruti Zen car intercepted them at Shakarpur Pushta. Sensing danger, Aga tried to run on foot with the cash leaving behind the motorcycle. But the robbers trained their gun at his nephew and Aga had to surrender.

The robbers the pushed Aga and his nephew inside the car and snatched the bag containing the cash. They threw the two out of the moving car on Vikas Marg. One of the young men sped away on the agent’s motorcycle.

Meanwhile, a passer by who saw the robbers abduct the commission agent and his nephew at gun-point informed a PCR van stationed near the Vikas Marg traffic intersection.

When the police gave them chase, the robbers abandoned the car after being caught in a traffic jam in the Laxmi Nagar market.

After running a few meters on foot, they robbed Surender of his motorcycle at gun-point and escaped on his two-wheeler.

“The car left behind by the robbers could be an important lead in the case. We are trying to find out whether it is stolen. The stolen cell phones have been put under electronic surveillance and could lead us to the robbers,” said a senior police officer. Aga sustained minor injuries during the robbery.

The police have registered a case under Section 392 (robbery), 394 (causing hurt in committing robbery) and Section 397 (robbery with attempt to cause grievous hurt) of the IPC at the Shakarpur police station.
