Protect rights of people, judicial officers told

SALEM: Madras High Court judge Justice P. Jyothimani asked judicial officers to make concerted efforts to promote and protect human rights in the country.

Inaugurating the three-day training programme for judicial officers on techniques and tools for enhancing timely justice organised by the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy at Jairam Arts and Science College here on Friday, Mr. Justice Jyothimani said that judicial officers should be fully aware of various aspects of human rights and ensure the adoption of best practices in this important area.

The judge said honesty was the best virtue for judicial officers. They should maintain a balanced approach throughout their career.

Sessions on time management, case flow and court management and use of information and communication technology were conducted on the first day.

Sessions on Indian Constitution Its vision of justice: Directive principles and writ jurisdiction, use of information technology in legal research, fundamental rights, appreciation of evidence (civil cases), mediation, conciliation and lok adalat, basics in judgement writing, reasoning and rationality in judging and excellence in judgement writing, appreciation of evidence (criminal cases), ethics and integrity would be held on November 8 and 9.

Academy Director S.F. Akbar also spoke.

Principal District Judges M. Chinnapandy (Salem), C. Raghavan (Krishnagiri) and S. Kalavathi (Namakkal), Additional District Judge (Dharmapuri) Bhopalan and senior judicial officers from Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts attended.
