dated November 8, 1958: U.S. moon probe rocket

The third United States attempt to send a moon-probe rocket into space was postponed early on November 7. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said in Washington that the postponement of the moon shot was due to “technical difficulties.” The announcement of the postponement did not mention the moon but spoke of “an experimental space exploration vehicle”, but officials would not amplify this reference.
