Corrections and clarifications

* * It is the Army Educational Corps Training College and Centre, at Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh. A report “[Purohit arrest] A freak case: Army” (November 7, 2008) gave it, incorrectly, as the Army Corps Training College and Centre.

* * The Bhonsala Military School is in Nashik, and not Pune as given in a report “Purohit’s improbable path to becoming a terrorist” (November 6, 2008).

* * The last paragraph of a report “Putin for expansion of energy ties” (November 6, 2008) was “[Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister] Mr. Deora said the acquisition of Russia’s Imperial Energy company by OVL [ONGC Videsh Limited] was not discussed during his talks in Moscow as the deal was going through the normal course of clearance by the Russian government.” A reader said that Imperial Energy Company is a Russia-focussed British oil explorer company and ONGC finalised the deal to acquire the company at 2.59 billion USD. Russia Correspondent Vladimir Radyuhin clarifies that ONGC has indeed acquired Imperial Energy (IE) for about $2.6 billion, but the deal is subject to clearance by the Russian government since IE operates in Russia and has a number of oil production licenses in Siberia. The acquisition has already been cleared by the Natural Resources Ministry and is now being scrutinised by the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, a mergers and acquisitions watchdog.

* * A sentence in a report “Kochi woman on cloud nine” (“Newscape” page, November 6, 2008) was “They had Barack at the age of 18”, leading to queries on who had Barack at 18. It was Ann [Soetoro] who was 18 when she had Barack [Obama].

* * The PR agency of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) clarifies that there were typographical errors committed by them in an item in “Snippets” (“Business/Markets” page, November 4, 2008), titled “Dalmia Cement (Bharat) PAT at Rs. 40 crore”. It should have said: “Net sales of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) for the second quarter ended September 30, 2008, increased by 27 per cent to Rs. 449 crore from Rs. 355 crore [and not Rs. 44.92 crore from Rs. 35.46 crore, as published] in the comparable period in the previous year. Total income was up 25 per cent at Rs. 455 crore against Rs. 364 crore [and not Rs. 45.48 crore against Rs. 36.40 crore, as published]. The net profit for the quarter under review stood at Rs. 40.19 crore, according to a release.”
