Students develop ‘glucose drip finishing alarm’

Several exhibits on display at school-level science fair

YOUNG SCIENTISTS: A student explaining the working of an exhibit at the school-level science fair organised at Little Star High School in Adilabad on Friday.

ADILABAD: Even if the obvious seems implied, nurses are not likely to take offence by the contraption developed by students of the Little Star High School, Adilabad due to the novelty of it.

The students have devised something called the ‘glucose drip finishing alarm’ that alerts the nurse or the attendant whenever the flow of the fluid ends.

The alarm figured as one of the best exhibits at the school-level science fair held on Friday and was developed by Javeed Sorathia, Suraj Chauhan and Prithviraj of class IX A. It works on the same principle on which the water cistern in the toilet works.

“The science fair provides the young students with an exposure to the marvels of science. This also helps develop the logical way of thinking in them,” observes P. Arogya Reddy, school principal.

Pumping water

The high school section in the science fair showcased use of water at low cost and at no cost. Students exhibited models of pumping water to irrigate farms at no cost.

On display was a water pumping mechanism that used an air pump to push water into a pipe.

K. Shantaram, Vipnay Rao and Giri Prasad, students of class VIII say using the same principal water can be drawn from a deep well by using bellows. This section also had exhibits on current science developments like that of Chandrayan and also exhibits on nutrition etc.

In the primary section, the students showcased even sweaters to be worn in winter months.
