KOZHIKODE: The Mass Drug Administration Programme, aimed at total eradication of filariasis, will be launched in the district at the Beach Hospital by Mayor M. Bhaskaran on November 11. As part of the WHO-sponsored programme, held under the aegis of the Centre, tablets will be distributed to the public. Pregnant women, children below two years and those will chronic ailments are exempted. Health workers and non-government organisation representatives will distribute DEC Albendasol tablets from November 11 to 13. Specific dosageSpecific dosage has been prescribed for different age groups. As part of the filarial control programme, steps will be taken to destroy mosquitoes. In 11 districtsIn the State, the programme is being conducted in 11 districts that reported cases of filarial (except Wayanad, Idukki and Pathanamthitta). As many as 2.85 crore people in the State live in areas, where the risk of being infected by this disease is high.
