‘Be vigilant to curb corruption’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Chief Justice of A. P. High Court Anil Ramesh Dave has emphasised that the best way to tackle corruption is by being disciplined at work and in public life.

Participating as the chief guest at the valedictory of Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations of South Central Railway here on Friday, Justice Dave said that observance of such vigilance awareness weeks would help officials and staff to take a re-look at the existing systems and simplify procedures in place of complex ones.

When complex procedures were made user friendly, corruption would be automatically curtailed.

Right to Information Act was another effective tool to expose corrupt officers, he said.

Praising the Railways for the improvement in quality of service, he said with Sixth Pay Commission promising attractive salaries, there was no need for government employees to be greedy.

“Even if public offered money, you should not accept it for discharging your duty and you would get their blessings in abundance in return.”

SCR General Manager H.K. Padhee said vigilance department needed to be more vigilant to curtail corruption, identify areas of revenue leakage and suggest pragmatic systems to rule out scope for corruption at a time Railways had been registering excellent progress and creating assets. Senior Deputy General Manager, Vigilance, Rajiv Vishnoi said as many as 1,820 preventive checks were carried out by the department in the last one year and 463 officials were booked.

He urged public to lodge their complaints under the Public Interest Disclosure Act directly to the Chief Vigilance Commissioner and their identity would be kept confidential.
