Heritage retold in a power-point presentation

‘Aim was to create awareness about these monuments’

HYDERABAD: It was a day to be cherished by scores of historians in the city as the hoary history of Hyderabad and the narrative behind its decades old heritage was being retold in a power-point presentation.

The occasion was “The architectural heritage of Hyderabad” organised by Centre for Deccan Studies and Forum for Better Hyderabad here on Friday.

Monuments

A rare collection of photographs pertaining to heritage monuments, including tombs, lakes, bridges, forts, market places and other religious structures in the city were presented along with their historic importance.

Aga Khan Fellow, Dr. Omar Khalidi documented these historic structures.

Apathy

The programme also focused on the reasons for the dilapidated condition of several historical monuments because of official apathy towards restoring the Hyderabad’s heritage.

Speaking to media persons, Khalidi said documentation of Hyderabad’s history would give accurate information of the past to the generation next.

Awareness

“My aim was to create awareness about these monuments and by doing this, we can also preserve and perpetuate importance of heritage in the city,” he explained.

Centre for Deccan Studies Vice-president Dr. Rajendra Prasad was also present on the occasion.
