Man arrested on charge of selling ganja to students Crime Notes

BANGALORE: The Corps of Detective’s Narcotic Drugs Prevention Cell on Friday caught Sajid (25), who was allegedly selling ganja to students near K.R. Puram overbridge, and seized one kilo of ganja worth over Rs. 10,000 from him.

The police said Sajid, resident of K.R. Puram, had been selling ganja to students from various parts of the city. On a tip-off, the CoD sleuths arrived at the spot and arrested him. He has been booked under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Superintendent of Police (CoD) B.N.S. Reddy said they were trying to find out whether Sajid has any links with Mritunjaya and Bhagyamma of Malur, who were arrested from Malur 15 days ago for possessing 15 kg of ganja.

Killed

A 31-year-old software engineer was killed when he was hit by a car on 100-feet Ring Road in MICO Layout traffic police station limits on Thursday night.

The police said Suresh Kumar, an employee of a company in Jamshedpur, had come to Bangalore on an official assignment, and was staying in a lodge on 100-feet Road. He was hit by the car when he was crossing the road. The police are in search of the car driver, who abandoned the vehicle at the accident spot.

In another accident, Manjunath (32), a garment factory employee, was killed when he was hit by a lorry near Karle Garments on Pune-Bangalore National Highway on Friday. The police said Manjunath, was a resident of Karibovanahalli. The Peenya Traffic police have registered a case and have seized the vehicle.

Stolen

A laptop and Rs. 52,000 belonging to an industrialist were stolen from his car parked near State Bank of India branch in Peenya 2nd Stage on Friday. The police said Narasimhalu Naidu of Vidyaranyapura locked his car and went to draw cash from the bank. While inside the bank, he heard his car’s burglar alarm and turned it off. The theft came to light only after he came out and found that miscreants had made away with his belongings. The Peenya police have registered a case.

Pelts seized

The Vidyaranyapura police arrested four persons and seized four leopard pelts, two tiger pelts, three deer pelts, four ivory pieces and 140 deer horns from them. The police said the accused were allegedly involved in selling the wildlife properties and ganja in BEL 2nd Stage. The police also recovered 15 kg of ganja. The police have registered a case under the Wildlife Protection Act.
