Catholicos visits Niranom, Parumala

PATHANAMTHITTA: Karekin-II, the Supreme Catholicos of the Armenian Orthodox Church, visited the church believed to have been founded by St. Thomas, the apostle of Jesus Christ, at Niranom, near Thiruvalla, on Friday afternoon.

Malankara Orthodox Church Senior Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Osthatheos and Chengannur diocese Metropolitan Thomas Mar Athanaseus received the Armenian Catholicos at Niranom Church around 3 p.m.

Mar Osthatheos received the Catholicos by handing over a live candle to him.

At Parumala, Catholicos Karekin-II was received by Catholicos-designate Paulose Mar Milithios and Parumala seminary Manager M.D. John at 9 a.m.

The Armenian Catholicos offered prayers at the tomb of St. Gregorios at Parumala Church and blessed the faithful there.

Mental health centre

The Armenian Catholicos also laid stone for the proposed mental health and de-addiction centre attached to the St. Gregorios Medical Mission Hospital at Parumala.

The Catholicos of the East, Moran Mor Baselius Mar Thoma Didymus-I, inaugurated a public meeting in connection with the stone-laying ceremony.

Paulose Mar Milithios presided over the function. Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas, hospital director Alex Paul and Fr. Alexander Koodarathil also spoke.
