Two-day magicians’ meet begins in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: ‘Jantar Mantar 08’, the second All India Magic Convention began in Tirupati on Saturday, with 400 magicians and 20 dealers of magic items from across the country taking part. The event is being jointly conducted by Andhra Pradesh Magicians’ Association and R.K.’s Wonder World magic shop, in association with the TTD.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, TTD’s SV Digital Library director Bhuman Subramanyam Reddy called magic one of the ancient art forms like music, theatre and painting and sought official patronage to it.

Referring to the superstitions prevalent in the society, especially in the rural pockets, he appealed to the magicians to take the initiative in spreading the message and bringing about a revolution. He strongly felt that magic could negate the ill-effects of false notions prevalent in the society and create enlightenment.

TTD’s Officer on Special Duty Ch. Ramana expressed happiness at the custodian of the world famous temple being part of the national convention of magicians.

S. Balachandran, General Manager of BSNL Tirupati Telecom District, also took part.

The event organisers dubbed TTD Executive Officer K.V. Ramanachary a ‘connoisseur of fine arts’ and thanked the management for extending a helping hand.

Senior magicians Danthu Bhai (Jamshedpur) and Altaf Ali (Hyderabad) conducted lecture-cum-demonstration sessions for the budding wizards.

State president V. Ravi Reddy and the event coordinator N.R.S. Narasimhan performed an awe-inspiring event on black magic. G. Raghu Babu, proprietor of RK’s also took part.

Veteran magician and the secretary of AP Para Medical Board, B.N.S. Kumar, was felicitated on the occasion.

Children aspiring to make it big in the arena of magic excelled in the competitions conducted later.

Karun Krishna (Bangalore), Sheely Rangrez (Hyderabad) and Zenia Bungara (Mumbai) won the first, second and third prizes respectively.

The magic shows conducted in the evening enthralled the general audience. The event concludes on Sunday.
