VISAKHAPATNAM: Development Initiative for Sexual Health (DISHA), a new project to address the sexual health issues and raising awareness on HIV/AIDS among tribals has been launched in 10 villages of Paderu and Hukumpeta mandals in the district. The incidence of HIV/AIDS in the agency areas is on the rise due to influx of tourists to Araku and other areas. The advent of mobile phones has also come handy for the pimps to lure tribal youth into flesh trade in various places, a recent survey revealed. A health official said the agency belt was high on their agenda to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Under DISHA, knowledge-levels are being assessed in the villages through Knowledge, Attitude, Behaviour, Practice (KABP) Study by involving community-based organisations (CBOs). The project envisages enhancing knowledge on safe sex, awareness levels on available sexual health services, generating demand on quality services relating to health services and promoting enabling environment for community care and support.
