TIRUPATI: Chief Election Commissioner, A.V.S. Reddy has said that the election which is already long overdue to the Tirupati Municipal Corporation would be held once the case pending in the High Court was disposed. It may be mentioned here that election to the corporation is hanging in the balance for quite sometime now following a writ petition filed before the High Court questioning the validity of the state government reserving the corporation chairperson’s post to the STs. The opposition parties allege ‘political motive’ behind the government’s decision to reserve the post to the STs as, they argue that the STs population in Tirupati city was not that much as to deserve reserving the post to the STs. Meanwhile the Chief Election Commissioner who arrived here on Sunday held a review meeting with the officials concerned vis-À-vis their preparedness to hold the corporation election ‘the moment it was announced’. Additional SP, Ammi Reddy and the commissioner of the corporation, Mohan Reddy and others participated in themeeting. He said once the finalisation of the voters list was completed by November, 15 official notification would be issued for the elections.
