Chief Minister promises construction of separate hostel for girls shortly

YSR urged to sanction an engineering college for the university


MAHABUBNAGAR: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday inaugurated the Palamur University campus.

He also opened a hostel building constructed to accommodate over 180 students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Reddy who arrived here as part of his three-hour whirlwind tour to the district assured that a separate hostel for girls would be constructed shortly.

University Vice Chancellor Gopal Reddy said a master plan aimed at developing the necessary infrastructure for the university in a sprawling 170 acres was prepared.

He urged the Chief Minister to sanction an engineering college for the university.

More varsities

Mahabubnagar MP D.Vittal Rao said while 18 universities were established during the earlier Congress regimes, the present Government had set up 17 more in the last four and a half years. Technical Education Minister R. Chenga Reddy, local MLA Puli Veeranna also spoke.

Interacting with Municipal Councillors earlier, Dr. Reddy said the drinking water problem in the town would be solved within three months once the Koilsagar pipeline works were completed.

Later addressing a public meeting at Government Junior College grounds, the Chief Minister announced that Rs. 5,000 would be given to those farmers who repaid loans promptly from November 19, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.

Welfare schemes

Listing out the developmental and welfare programmes being taken up, Dr. Reddy said the government was committed to financially empower the members of self-help groups. He said over 80 lakh houses to shelterless weaker section families were sanctioned of which construction of 40 lakh houses was already completed and added that only the present Congress government launched several welfare schemes.

Jobs through JKCs

He said in addition to providing education to marginalized sections free of cost, the government was enabling them to secure jobs through Jawahar Knowledge Centre. Responding to the request of local MLA Puli Veeranna, he said that a bypass road to Mahabubnagar town would be undertaken and the 250 bedded headquarters hospital would be upgraded into 350 bedded one.

Whirlwind tour

Earlier Chief Minister in his three hours whirlwind tour in the town laid foundation stones and inaugurated twenty two structures costing Rs. 110 crore.

The Chief Minister also distributed loans and assets to the members of women self help group worth several crores.
