Relief for cotton ryots sought
Special Correspondent
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has demanded payment of compensation of Rs.15,000-20,000 to cotton farmers in Warangal district who lost their cotton crop after using ‘Neeraja’ seed supplied by Mahyco company in the recent past.
Madusudhana Chary, general secretary, in a letter to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Sunday said farmers had sown the seed in 50,000 acres after investing Rs.15,000-20,000 for an acre of crop. After the crop got dried up they had incurred debts.
Since they were unable to repay debts many farmers were committing suicides in the district, the letter stated.
