PUDUCHERRY: Students of St. Joseph of Cluny Higher Secondary School emerged winners in the zonal-level competitions held as part of Children’s Day celebrations. The competitions were conducted by the Puducherry Government on November 5. The following students of the schools were declared winners in zone I level of the competitions. A student of Class V, Vibha Srinidhi won the drawing competition, while Anukriti of Standard V emerged winner in fancy dress event. R. Sneha Preethi of Standard VIII won in kolam, Keerthi Priya of Standard IX in drawing, M.E. Heena Banu, S. Nivedhitha, S. Sujatha, K.G. Nivetha and R. Samyugtha of Standard XII were declared winners in group song (Tamil). In the running train drawing competition conducted by Puducherry State Artists Society, S. Maria Josephine, M. Priyanka of Standard V, G. Ranjitha of Standard VII and R. Vinitha of Standard VIII were declared winners. Singing competitionAt the Puducherry Inter-School National Anthem Singing Competition conducted by Rotary Club of Pondicherry Aurocity on November 8, N. Arunasree of Standard XI and S. Pavithra of Standard VIII of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School received the second and third prizes respectively. V. Mathumathi of Class XI and K. Dharshini of Class VIII received the consolation prizes in the competition. A. Aparna of Class IX has been selected the prize winner in the annual drawing competition in running train. Bal Shree awardThe south zone-level selection for National Bal Shree award 2008 was conducted at Trivandrum from September 13 to 17. Twentysix competitors from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry had participated in “Innovative Science” category and eight students had been selected to represent the National level competition to be held from December 4 to 8 at New Delhi. A student of Class XI of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School V. Prassanna Kumar was one among the two candidates to be selected from Puducherry to participate in the national level competition. Principal of the school Fr. M.S. John Bosco congratulated him. The National Service Scheme (NSS) of the school has taken up a task of “Adopting two slow learners in a class by a clever student in the same class.” NSS State Liaison Officer E.M. Rajan inaugurated the programme. Saving habitAGM of Canara Bank Suresh Kumar handed over the passbooks to students who have opened savings bank account. School NSS Officer T.A.J. Edmond was present on the occasion. At the science exhibition-2008, Anoop Kumar Doss and K. Saravanan of Class XII received the first prize and S.B. Vishnu Prasad of Class XII got the second prize. A team comprising V. Prassanna Kumar and D. Nitish got the first prize and Anto Vipin and Seenuprasanth secured the second prize in the Class XI level. At the high school-level, Rathinam and Sundaramanikandan of Class X won the first prize, while Kishore Janvier and Prabakar of Class X came second. The Principal gave away the first prize to Naveen and G. Srinath of Class XII and second prize to Ganapathy Raghunandan of Class XII to encourage the students to take part in computer exhibits. The Rotary Club of Pondicherry Cosmos conducted the district-level quiz competition and general awareness test – Pinnacle 2008 – and Minister of Collegiate Education M.O.H.F. Shahjahan presented a cash award of Rs.2,000 to P. Bala of Class XII for securing the third place in the senior category in general awareness test. Harish of Class X got the consolation prize at the junior level and Gurudarshan of Standard VI received the prize for the middle school level. Senior lecturer in Commerce and project chairman of Pinnacle A. Mani was present at the quiz programme.
