TASMAC staff observe 24-hour fast

KRISHNAGIRI: Employees of TASMAC shops observed a 24-hour fast from 8 a.m. on Sunday demanding regularisation of temporary staff, equal pay on a par with government servants, eight hours work, weekly off, national festival holidays, incentive and reinstatement of dismissed employees.

The agitation was staged in front of the District Collectorate. Inaugurated by Centre of Indian Trade Unions State Secretary G. Sekar, it was led by E.S. Ravichandran.Their demands include city compensatory allowance, house rent allowance, special pay for working in tribal areas, statutory rights pension and risk allowances on a par with government employees.

Treatment

Apart from this, they also demanded that damages to the cartons should be taken into account while fixing the price of cartons. They also urged the government to extend medical treatment facilities for staff and family members.

The employees demanded that the day’s collection should be collected from the doorstep by the bankers like in Kancheepuram and Chennai.

The government should bear the electricity charges for liquor shop and bars. TASMC employees should not be treated as scapegoats for theft at the shops. They request the authorities to provide machines to identify fake currency notes and also sought installation of currency machines.

Promotion

Their other demands include TA and DA for official journeys, promotion for qualified employees, priority in government appointments and counselling for transfer near the native places.

More than 150 employees participated in the hunger strike.

Mr. Hari Rao, State Executive Member, Bank Employees Federation of India, gave fruit juice to the employees and ended the strike.
