Tirupur: Tension prevailed in a private hospital on 60 feet road here on Monday following the death of a two-day old infant allegedly owing to medical negligence.
The baby, born to Bhoopathy (27), a textile unit owner, and Pushpavathy, a housewife, died on Monday morning after some fluid came out through the nostrils. Fellow residents of Bhoopathy at Kumaranthapuram immediately gathered in large numbers outside the hospital demanding explanation from the authorities on the death.
They alleged that the delivery was attended by a lady doctor who possessed only a M.B.B.S degree without having any specialisation in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Besides, the hospital did not have any doctors on the premises at the time when the aqueous material came out of the baby’s snout.
The relatives of Bhoopathy alleged that the bed-ridden Pushpavathy was forced to bring the child on her own from the first floor to the ground floor to show the baby to a nurse since all her cry for help was not answered.
As the tension mounted, a police contingent from North Police station rushed to the spot and pacified the crowd promising appropriate action in the incident.
