Rs.23 crore for development works

Amenities: Road development work under way from Needamangalam to Kumbakonam near Alangudi in Thiruvarur district.

TIRUVARUR: The State government has allocated Rs.23 crore for carrying out 153 development works in various parts of Tiruvarur district and all works would be started soon, said M. Chandrasekaran, Collector, on Monday.

The Collector said that Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin who distributed revolving fund to the women self-help groups and inaugurated 254 projects including road works, school buildings, at a cost of Rs.33 crore on Friday had also laid foundation stones for several new projects and development works.

He said that nearly Rs.12 crore had been allocated for laying village roads under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana scheme and also for improvement of 46 roads at a cost of Rs.3.58 crore.

The Collector pointed out that special efforts were taken to construct 100 houses as early as possible at the Samathuvapuram to come up at Odacherry village in the district and said Rs.3.04 crore would be spent for constructing 61 additional overhead water tanks in the district.

Besides, Rs.1.10 crore will be spent for constructing a bridge across Vennar in Koothanallur and additional buildings to be built for the Rajagopalaswamy college and also for the college students belonging to Adi Dravidar community at Mannargudi.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the Public Works Department, said on Monday, that all the road development works had commenced in various parts of the district and would be completed within the stipulated time.
