Seenu’s killer has links with TDP, says Jana

Special Correspondent

TDP charged with putting out concocted stories to blame government

‘Seenu himself prepared the cement dumb-bell for exercise’

HYDERABAD: Home Minister K. Jana Reddy on Monday launched a counter offensive against the Telugu Desam in the face of its allegation that the government was behind the killing of Moddu Seenu in the Anantapur jail since he threatened to turn an approver in the Paritala Ravi murder case.

At a press conference here, Mr. Jana Reddy disclosed that there were at least two links of the alleged murderer, Om Prakash, with the TDP.

TDP ticket

He said that Om Prakash’s wife Shamala had contested on the TDP ticket in the elections to the Madanapalle Municipal Council in 1999. She was reportedly recommended as the TDP candidate for the 16th ward by Rajya Sabha member of TDP Kalwa Srinivas. Secondly, Shamala’s sister Kalyani was married to Krishna, brother of Talari Mastanaiah, who is a witness in the Paritala Ravi murder case. The Home Minister also said Om Prakash had enquired from a TDP delegation which visited the Anantapur jail on Sunday whether Mr. K. Srinivasulu was not part of it. The government permitted the delegation to go inside the jail despite reservations expressed by authorities. It was done in the interest of transparency.

‘Weird claims’

Accusing the TDP of putting out concocted stories to blame the government for the murder, Mr. Reddy said the party made weird claims drawing parallels to Seenu’s killing with deaths in the past of underworld don Azeez Reddy and a physician Sambasiva Rao. The TDP also alleged that Seenu was eliminated in a bid to hush up investigation in Paritala Ravi’s case. If that was true, there was a danger of Om Prakash also spilling the beans against the government in the future.

Mr. Reddy said investigation disclosed that Seenu had himself prepared the cement dumb-bell with construction material available on the jail premises and carried the same into his barrack for physical exercise. It was for this reason that four wardens of the jail were suspended. He offered to hand over the probe into Seenu’s killing to the CBI if at least four Opposition parties represented to the government which, however, did not feel the necessity.
