SALEM: The Salem district unit of Janata Dal (Secular) urged the State Government to appoint IAS officer as Salem Corporation Commissioner. In a press release, District president G. Velayudham demanded the civic administration to ensure proper functioning of the mobile tax collection centre. The unit was parked on the commercial complexes for most of the time. Party members also wanted the district administration to shift a TASMAC liquor shop at Ashok Nagar on Pachapatti main road, which was located near a school. They urged the Central Government to initiate steps to work out a peaceful solution for the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.
