Panel gives memorandum to the Chief Minister

Workers seek wages on par with government staff


HUBLI: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Employees’ United Struggle Committee has said that it will be forced to launch an agitation across the State if its demands are not fulfilled by December 15.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, convenor of the committee K.S. Sharma said that the committee had given a notice in this regard to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa along with a memorandum.

He said that the management of the four State road transport corporations in the State had ignored the demands of the employees’ unions and unilaterally declared wage revision of six per cent.

Dr. Sharma aid that the employees had been seeking wages on par with government employees. The staff of road transport corporations, who used to get higher wages than the government employees, were now getting 21 per cent less than what government employees were getting now.

The committee’s demands were rejection of unilateral wage revision and negotiated settlement with the committee, ex-gratia with retrospective effect, abolition of the “exploitative” job-trainee system and regularisation of services of the trainees.

The committee had sought a ban on private buses plying on nationalised routes, he said.

The committee comprises Akhila Karnataka State Road Transport Employees’ Federation, Karnataka Corporations Employees’ Federation, KSRTC United Employees’ Union, SC/ST Officers’ and Employees’ Welfare Association, SC/ST Employees’ Union, KSRTC Corporations Muslim Employees’ Union and KSRT Corporations Employees’ and the Retired Employees’ Welfare Federation.
