Tributes paid to Moulana

Kakinada: Allam Apparao, Vice-Chancellor of JNTU, paid rich tributes to Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad on the occasion of the latter’s birth anniversary on Tuesday.

Participating in the celebrations of the National Education Day being observed to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Moulana, he said the freedom fighter had contributed a lot for the growth of education. The Vice-Chancellor also lauded the government’s commitment for the welfare of minorities.

Prof. Apparao said that Dr. Moulana was well versed with many languages. Dr. Moulana was one of the Muslim leaders who supported the Hindu-Muslim unity opposing the partition of India on communal lines. Dr. Moulana became an enthusiastic supporter of Gandhi’s ideas of non-violent civil disobedience and worked actively to organise the non-cooperation movement. He committed himself to Gandhi’s ideals, including promoting Swadeshi products and the cause of Swaraj (self-rule) for India, he said.

Dr. Moulana Abul Kalam Azad was posthumously awarded India’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna in 1992.
