SALEM: The Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Medical College and Hospital will conduct an International Conference on Emergency Medicine ‘Emcon 2008’ from November 12 to 16. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, vice-president and Hospital Director N. V. Chandrasekar and Medical Director Dr. Ezhil Vendhan said the conference would discuss three major aspects in the emergency medicine - pre-hospital care, emergency room management and critical care services. “Our country, which has a huge road network in the world, still lacks medial infrastructure to deal with the road accidents and emergency care needs. A majority of the emergency units lacks adequate facilities and skilled manpower. With the country witnessing more number of emergencies including cardiac related ones, there is an urgent need for providing timely intervention,” they said. The conference is organised under the aegis of Department of Accident, Emergency and Critical Care Medicine of Vinayaka Missions University. Over 1,500 international faculty from countries including US, UK, Australia, China, Bangladesh, Qatar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and experts from various parts of India are expected to attend the conference. Faculty from the world renowned universities including Suny Upstate Medical University, Columbia University, George Washington University, Loma Linda University, Medical University of South Carolina, Stanford University, University of Florida Gainesville, University of Minnesota and North Shore LIJ Health System will take part in the conference.
