Sukhbir authorised to select candidates

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Core Committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal has authorised party president Sukhbir Singh Badal to select candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls as well as for the annual election of office bearers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

It was also decided that the party president would constitute a committee of senior leaders to formulate the manifesto for the general elections. The committee will interact with all sections of society to elicit their views on the choice of candidates and the issues to be highlighted during the campaign.

Akali Dal secretary D. S. Cheema said the committee expressed concern over the high prices of petroleum products despite a sharp fall in the rates of crude oil in the international market. It was resolved that a deputation of senior leaders of the party would meet the Prime Minister and other Central Ministers and urge them to lower the prices of diesel, petrol and cooking gas.
