Shameful

The charge by a German woman — whose 14-year-old daughter was allegedly raped — that she was crushed under the weight of the rich and mighty to withdraw the case against the son of a Goan Minister (Nov. 11) is a shame on the nation. Is Goa, which has been in international news for the wrong reasons of late, becoming a lawless State? Should not the Centre be sensitive to such transgressions?

S. Rajagopalan,

Chennai

* * *

It is disturbing to learn that the German woman had to drop the charge of rape of her daughter. The incident shows that our society and system have become cruel and inhuman. We ought to hang our heads in shame.

C. Rudrappa,

Bangalore
