Yenepoya foundation distributes Rs. 4.16 lakh among 186 students

ACHIEVERS: The recipients of ‘excellency awards’ of the Yenepoya Foundation at a function in Mangalore on Tuesday.

MANGALORE: Yenepoya Foundation, a unit of Yenepoya Moideen Kunhi Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust, distributed cheques worth Rs. 4.16 lakh to 186 meritorious students from high schools, pre-university and degree colleges, at a function at Deralakatte here on Tuesday.

Students from Muslim and other communities from Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod (Kerala) districts received the cheques and appreciation certificates to those who had scored 70 per cent and above marks in their qualifying examinations.

In addition, the foundation gave cheques worth Rs. 1.1 lakh to the representatives of 16 educational institutions, including high schools, pre-university and degree colleges, which had secured good results in the last SSLC and final year examinations of respective courses.

J. Krishna Palemar, Minister for Ports, Inland Water Transport, Environment and Ecology and in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, U.T. Khader, MLA, Syed Akheel Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Yenepoya University, Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, chairman of Yenepoya Foundation, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University, and P.C.M. Kunhi, director of the Islamic Academy of Education, were present.

Mr. Mohammed Kunhi said that the foundation was providing this assistance to encourage students, who excelled in their studies. Muslim students were being encouraged to motivate the educationally backward sections of the community. The foundation was bearing the entire course fee of five meritorious MBBS students and five meritorious BDS students, who joined the trust’s medical and dental colleges in 2008-09, he said. Those students were presented with appreciation certificates and felicitatedon the occasion.

The foundation has called these as “excellency awards”.
