Major Gopi remembered

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: On the third anniversary of the martyrdom of Major Gopi, a meeting was organised at Major Gopi Rathore Park in New Rajendra Nagar here on Monday. Floral tributes were paid to the departed soldier and litterateur on the occasion.

Major Gopi had the distinction of serving as aide-de-camp to former Presidents K. R. Narayanan and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Ironically, he laid down his life while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir when the funeral pyre of former President Narayanan was being lit on the evening of November 9, 2005.

Special love

He is remembered as much for his distinguished role as a soldier as for his special love for literature and literary pursuits. His legacy endures through his rich collection of poems and values which made a deep impact on all those who came in contact him.
